Sr. Network Systems Engineer



Summary: The Sr. Network Systems Engineer is responsible for the overall management of large enterprise networks. This includes the planning, design, configuration, 24x7 management, and coordination of (LAN/WAN/WLAN) for Contingent's Clients and internal departments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
o Works with client to develop and evaluate solutions by analyzing business needs and impact.
o Assesses and interviews clients to determine highly technical design requirements.
o Provides engineering support and assistance to Sales team in client technical discussions and proposal development.
o Engineers, configures and leads the design, configuration, deployment, and ongoing management of data networks including LAN, WAN and WLAN, Windows Servers, MS Exchange, routers, firewalls, SANs, load balancers and other network infrastructure devices.
o Performs client network discovery tasks and device configuration creation.
o Undertakes data network fault investigations in LAN and WAN environments, using information from multiple sources and tools.
o Performs analysis of logging, and implements Splunk alerts solution for the network environment.
o Works with client to identify, isolate, and resolve problems within the WAN/LAN/WLAN environment for the network, VoIP, QOS, and other solutions.
o Develops and executes tests based on test plans.
o Coordinates testing between impacted teams within IT and/or client
o Ensures all systems are compliant to PCI and industry standard security policies.
o Completes change control, problem management and root cause analysis processes in accordance with company policies, for execution of implementations and changes to the network environment.
o Provides recommendations on viability, implementation strategies and optimal implementation of proposed solutions.
o Serves as an escalation point for junior engineers and complex issues/designs/configurations.
o Troubleshoots and remedies enterprise network issues, formally documenting with RCA.
o Performs and troubleshoots patch installations and upgrades to various systems such as firmware, operating system, tools, and applications, as needed.
o Maximizes network performance and resiliency by monitoring performance, troubleshooting network problems and outages and scheduling updates.
o Provides updates to executive and technical-level internal and external clients.
o Ensures familiarity with client network planning, implementation and support processes and procedures.
o Demonstrates expert level knowledge of network topologies and conditions. Ensures changes to network topologies are made with minimal down-time.
o Reviews data monitoring statistics and confirms provider SLA's are met.
o Reviews network utilization statistics to verify that circuits are properly sized and networks are optimized. Takes proactive approach to optimization.
o Ensures network services have sufficient capacity, stability, and agility to satisfy service level agreements with internal business units and external clients.
o Provides regular status reports on tasks accomplished, current issues and progress toward goals.
o Works closely with partners/vendors to resolve issues and ensure quality.
o Creates and updates network diagrams, procedures and policies to ensure adequate support of network environments.
o Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, and staying active in professional organizations.
o Performs network security equipment software and configuration upgrades
o Coordinates proof of concept testing.
o Provides field support for project pilot locations.
o Establishes and operates network lab/test environment.
o Provides on-call support for general IT systems, servers, and network infrastructure.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This job typically supervises 1 - 5 Network Engineers.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree in computer science or electrical engineering from a four-year college or university and 8
years of experience in areas such as network design and implementation, LAN/WAN interfacing, security, Internet protocols and TCP/IP, and server and network infrastructure; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should:
o Be proficient in Microsoft Office applications
o Be proficient in switch, router, and firewall configuration and support
o Have knowledge of Internet software and Project Management software
o Have application competencies in Visio, AutoCAD, etc.
o Have understanding of Linux OS.
o Expert level experience with network monitoring and analysis equipment and software (Splunk, Nagios, SolarWinds, WUG, etc.)
o Excellent technical skills on Service Provider networks.
o Expert knowledge of TCP/IP, Ethernet, LAN, WAN and WLAN topologies, WiFi, WAP, firewalls, routers, switches, hubs, VPN, IPSec, DHCP, DNS, WINS, SNMP.
o Experience with routing protocols (OSPF, BGP)
o Expert with layer 1-4 firewalls, IDS/IPS/Cisco PIX, SonicWall, Fortinet, Checkpoint, Juniper, Palo Alto Networks
o Experience with IP designs, NAT, Cisco products, Cisco IOS and similar operating systems.
o Experience with server load-balancing systems, such as Cisco CSS, ACE, F5, Citrix or similar products.
o Expertise configuring, managing and troubleshooting variations of DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, and QOS
o Demonstrated expertise of other infrastructure components such as Windows, Unix, Storage Area Networks (SAN), and VMWare and how they function within a LAN environment
o Experience in WAN Optimizers such as Riverbed
o Knowledge in cyber security solutions such as IPS, SourceFire, FireEye, WebWashers
o Should be very familiar with PCI compliance
o Knowledge and experience in the ITIL service framework is a plus
